MARLO FARMS

Marlo Farms is a 3rd generation family run, proudly South African farming community based in Limpopo, made up of four companies: Marlo Roses, Marlo Seedling Nursery, MW de Wet & Sons Farming and Elevato Chianina Farming.

With farms situated in Palmietfontien, Bochum (Senwabarwana), Waterpoort and Naboomspruit (Mookgopong), we specialise in harvesting fresh fruit and vegetables for markets, growing tobacco seedlings for farmers in surrounding areas and supplying beautiful cut roses to large distributors. Marlo Farms also breed with Chianina cattle, which originate from Italy and are known for their high-quality meat. As founders of the South African Chianina Interest group, we are working towards advancing the breed in Southern Africa.

At Marlo Farms we pride ourselves in leading the way toward new developments in the Agricultural industry. With the introduction of Marlo Apples, we harvest the first apples of the season, guaranteeing they are the freshest on the market. This four-range cultivar is truly South African – expertly developed, uniquely grown and carefully hand-picked by Marlo Farms. We regularly have ‘Farmer Days’ at our Palmietfontein farm where we showcase new varieties of seedlings to interested buyers.

We rely heavily on our staff, some who have been with us since 1985, to carefully handle the yield and to keep strict quality control over all areas to ensure only the best produce reaches your home.

The de Wet family come with years of knowledge of farming in South Africa, with a diverse management team. We aim to deliver the best quality products and we have a passion for the earth and what can be grown from it.

MARLO FARMS EVOLUTION

FARMING IN LIMPOPO

Although Marlo Farms is run by the de Wets, our family extends by a further 600 permanent staff. An additional 400 – 600 seasonal workers are employed throughout the year on the various farms as the harvest requires.

We fully support job creation and upliftment in Limpopo by employing individuals from surrounding areas and helping them to and from work. Understanding the cultural landscape in Limpopo and breaching the language barrier, has enabled us to open our doors for educational outreach and knowledge sharing for upcoming farmers in our community.

Skills development in the Agricultural sector is an important element for us. We have ongoing learnerships running for about six months at a time, as well as other skills development courses like computer literacy, tractor and forklift training and fire and first aid training being offered too.

We rely on our diverse Employment Equity committee to ensure that we follow the necessary Employment Equity practices. Our aim is to uplift our staff and to have them complete as many courses that can help with personal development as well as to aid them to progress in the company.
